Why did you choose to work at Youth Villages?
I really wanted to work with kids. Youth Villages provided me that opportunity along with a chance for growth in professionalism, leadership and education.

What positions have you held?
I started off as a teacher-counselor on the Bartlett Campus. I eventually became a family counselor and have since been promoted to clinical liaison.

What do you love about your current job?
I love working with new staff and helping them build their counseling skills. Also, I enjoy being able to be a positive reinforcement for my team

What is a typical day like for a clinical liaison?
I usually am in the office during the morning. This way, I am available to my team for any assistance they may need with sessions or documentation. In the afternoons, I am out holding sessions with my families.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced in your first year at Youth Villages, and how did you overcome them?
Sometimes, the hours were long, and I missed my family – my own family. Also, the kids are challenging at times. However, by setting professional goals with my supervisors, I was able to overcome these challenges and grow as a counselor.

What benefits or advancement opportunities have you taken advantage of?
I am now in a position of leadership in my office, which I enjoy.

What is one piece of advice you would give someone who is considering working for Youth Villages?
Enjoy it! The good, the bad, the in-between. There is nothing like working with kids.

What has been the most rewarding experience so far at Youth Villages?
Seeing my clients leave our programs and live successfully. Seeing my coworkers develop as counselors.
